VIDEO

Video plays several roles in Gulf G.H.O.S.T. We use the HD camera for documentary and B-roll shots as well as placed on a tripod when needed as an additional stationary camera. We use at least one hand held Mini DV cam with Infra Red Night-shot technology to capture those spur of the moment events. The rest are placed strategically around the location on tripods. We also use a 4 camera DVR system that can shoot in 0 lux (pitch black) that records to a hard drive.

HD Video Camera
AKA “Mike’s Toy”

This now classic highly regarded camera is a 3 CCD HD 16x9 aspect ratio camera that comes with an optical Carl Zeiss 12x zoom lens. We also use a wide angle lens for interiors. It can shoot in both PAL and NTSC and has a minimum illumination rating of 3 Lux. Audio is stereo and has two XLR inputs. This is great for documenting investigations as well as getting beauty shots. Accessories include a Manfrotto 503 fluid head tripod.

Canon GL1 Mini DV Camera

This is a 3 CCD Firewire Mini DV camera and is a great workhorse. Often we'll set this up on a tripod and if in an interior a wide angle lens is used to get more room coverage. Audio is 16 bit (48 KHZ/2 ch) which is great as it records stereo audio, really handy for determining where a sound might be coming from in a room.

Camcorders

We use Sony & Canon Camcorders.  The Sony models have worked better as their "Night Shot" capability allows for better recording quality in 0 lux lighting. The Canon’s will work in low light areas, but sometimes require the addition of a low light LED source for better video clarity.  Depending on the needs of each investigation, we will either carry or position our cameras on tri-pods.  We also recommend either buying additional batteries or extended life batteries, as we have done.  Most factory included camcorder batteries will only last 1 to 1 ½ hours.

Infrared Illuminators

We will add small Infrared (IR) Illuminators to enhance the video quality in 0 lux lighting. We use Sima IR Illuminators, which run on rechargeable batteries, while carrying or where power is unavailable.  When power is available, we will us electrical powered IR Illuminators.
